This is a hugely inportant question. Pay per click companies insist that they offer the safest return on your advertising budget but sometimes that just isn’t true. Likewise if you choose pay per click sometimes the competition means that google isn’t the best contender. Here’s a few alternatives.
Yell.com
I personally wouldn’t use yell.com and neither would a lot of other people. For a directory it has very good SEO so that is a bonus. It is also paid annually and is comparatively cheap so it may be worth considering if you don’t mind being pestered by a pushy sales staff.
Gumtree
Gumtree is excellent because you can try it weekly. If after the first week you have no leads you can either tweak your advert, or stop it completely. The adverts are reasonably customisable and cheap while the site gets a lot of traffic. We give gumtree a e-marketing thumbs up.
Now Facebook is a pay per click service, but just think of all the information that Facebook’s usergroup gives over without second thought. Facebook marketing is a particularly good choice because of the level of targetting you can achieve. You can focus on age groups, business owners ect. (full walkthrough coming soon).
To conclude I would like to stress if you know what you are doing PPC advertising is great but sometimes it isn’t the best value for money. Follow us on Facebook because we have an in depth facebook marketing guide coming soon!
Hey David, I see you have a twitter account, do you tweet all your new posts?
I try too. My twitter was created after my website so some may have been missed but going forwards all my new content gets posted on twitter. My facebook is lagging but that is due to the push for followers that I aim to do in the new year.
